General Information

On Friday, July 8th and Saturday, July 9th Colorado Burlesque Festival’s amazing headliners, along with special guest Kellita, will be teaching everything you need to know to advance your performance skills! Whether you are just starting out or are a veteran performer, these workshops will help improve your stage skills, dance, costume and general well being! All classes will be held at the Curtis Hotel (1405 Curtis Street, Denver, CO 80202) in the Kick the Can room on the 2nd floor. Here are important things to know:
  • ALL classes are just $20 per person, per class.
  • All workshops are open to the public.

Jazz 101 is a 90 minute straight up dance class presented by Bazuka Joe of The Stage Door Johnnies. Dancers will actively participate in stretching exercises, a choreographed warm-up, strength and core work, and learn a combination that includes elements of basic jazz and Fosse techniques. Jazz 101 is open to performers of all levels, and is a gender-neutral aesthetic. Dancers should come prepared to move, wearing dance appropriate clothing and flexible footwear.

In burlesque at it’s best, we unite our bodies, minds and spirits to express our most fully nuanced and creative selves. Think: the most “YOU” version of you. Learn to set the stage for you to experience what you choose to, in performance and in Life. Also receive an embodied introduction to the Awakening Showgirl archetypes: The Diva, The Siren, The Ingenue, The Muse, The Amuser, The Shimmy-Shaker, The Bombshell, The Vixen and The Vamp. This class is for all levels of experience, from novice to seasoned professional; best when preceded by Showgirl Awakening, but not required.

Learn to dance with fans! This hands-on instruction uses fans that Vivienne has created – known as ‘fixed’ fans. She will explain the construction and walk students through basic movements and choreography. We’ll also discuss stave fans and how they differ from the fixed fans. Movement and Musicality is a dance-based, hands-on movement class that focuses on music theory as a driver to create sophisticated, thoughtful choreography. One part lecture, three parts movement, the class delves into stage crafting, the use of direction to impact mood and intention, playing with the audience’s focus, and manipulating rhythms and accents. Movement and Musicality is designed for all levels of performance from the novice to the career performer. Students need a notepad, pen, and comfortable clothes to move in.
